Our Environmental Initiatives
Travers Printing is choosing to take responsibility for its environmental impact by offsetting 100% of its electricity use and carbon emissions via Wind-Turbine Energy. We have partnered with Renewable Choice Energy to support the growth of renewable energy projects in the U.S. and reduce the environmental impact of the electricity we use. By purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) from Renewable Choice, we are taking responsibility for the emissions generated from our electricity use and helping change the way energy is produced in this country. We still purchase our electricity from National Grid, but by paying a little extra to purchase RECs we are ensuring that the energy we use is replaced on the national power grid with clean renewable energy. Our purchase of 774,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of RECs has an environmental impact that is similar to:
- Planting 5067 mature trees or
- Not driving 108 passenger cars per year
How RECs Work
- Renewable energy credits (RECs) help get more clean power online.
- A REC is created every time a renewable energy facility adds one
MWh of electricity to the national electricity grid and it is sold separately
from the electricity output.
- They are available to businesses and individuals that want to support renewable energy development.
- RECs help renewable energy facilities by making them more
financially viable, thereby incentivizing development.
Reducing Our Environmental Footprint We are excited about our commitment to reduce our environmental impact and educate our employees on the choices that are available for supporting clean energy. This decision is part of our sustainability practices and corporate responsibility goals. By purchasing renewable energy, we are:
- Helping reduce our dependency on fossil fuels
- Supporting the development of clean energy
- Contributing to the fight against global climate change
Join our Commitment
In addition to our corporate-wide commitment, we want to share information on how you can also support renewable energy at home. Renewable Choice has Home Wind Power Plans that offer ways for individuals and families to support clean energy. Find out more at www.renewablechoice.com.
Did you know?
According to the EPA, conventional energy production from fossil fuels is the leading cause of industrial air pollution The U.S. holds less than 5% of the world’s population but produces nearly 25% of global carbon emissions* Electricity accounts for 39% of all CO2 emissions**
